After decades making high-stakes decisions in executive roles, I help leaders cut through complexity, build stronger teams, and create organizations where people choose to follow.

Today’s leaders are expected to produce stronger results through teams that are more distributed, more diverse, and often less aligned than ever before.
That means leadership can no longer rely on title, proximity, or pressure alone. It requires a system for building trust, strengthening ownership, and creating performance through people rather than control.
You are carrying more scope, more complexity, and higher expectations, often without a deep enough leadership bench beneath you.
Meetings increase, communication multiplies, and yet engagement, ownership, and momentum still feel harder to sustain.
Your organization expects results, but teams often lack the clarity, trust, and decision confidence required to move quickly.
Many leaders are promoted for strong individual performance and then expected to lead people without the tools to coach, delegate, and build culture effectively.
Strong leaders remove barriers that keep capable people from doing their best work.
They build leadership capacity in others rather than extracting short-term performance at the expense of long-term growth.
They create consistency, candor, and follow-through so teams know what to expect and how to perform.
They give people the confidence and clarity to act with initiative instead of waiting for permission.
They shape culture not through slogans, but through how they respond when pressure is high and people need leadership most.
The leaders who thrive over the next decade won’t be the ones who worked hardest over the last one. They’ll be the ones who saw the shift coming and built their teams to move with it.
I see four patterns show up again and again:
You hand off the task but keep the decision — so it comes back to you anyway. (“Nobody can do this as well as I can.” Sound familiar?)
They won’t make a call without you. You’ve got the accountability but never handed over the authority to go with it.
The business stops when you stop. You’re the chief everything officer, and it’s been a long time since a vacation was actually a vacation.
You were the best at the craft. Now you’re not sure who you are as a leader — and that uncertainty feels like it shouldn’t be allowed to exist.
The leaders who will win the next five years aren’t the ones who figure it out alone. They’re the ones who had someone alongside them — asking better questions, calling out blind spots, and holding the standard when things get hard.
Bi-weekly coaching sessions built around your real challenges right now: your team, your culture, your next decision. No recycled frameworks from 2005. We work with what’s actually in front of you.
There’s a difference between advice from someone who studied your situation and advice from someone who’s living it right now. The Headway Huddle brings together 6–8 non-competing executives every month for exactly that kind of conversation.
Candid. Confidential. And usually the most useful couple of hours of your month.
You built a business. Now it needs to run without you being in every room, every decision, every fire drill. That transition — from chief everything officer to CEO — is one of the hardest leadership shifts there is.
We build the systems and the people that make it possible.
Here are some of the direct operating outcomes leaders care about most.
Delegate confidently. Build the kind of accountability that doesn’t require you to check everything twice.
Create real psychological safety with remote and hybrid teams — the kind that produces ownership, not just compliance.
Stop managing to the middle. Develop the range to meet different people where they actually are.
Stop choosing between culture and performance. The best leaders don’t — and we’ll show you why.
Lead from a place of steadiness, clarity, and genuine service — and watch what it does for the people around you.

Coaching is only as good as the results it produces. Here’s what real leaders — from companies like ExxonMobil, Coca-Cola, UPS, Microsoft, Hyundai, Raytheon, TD Synnex, and Adecco — have said about working with Doug.

Leadership is shifting fast, and I write about what I’m actually seeing — in coaching sessions, in the research, and inside real organizations. No fluff, no posters, just honest thinking about what works.
