The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. A Coach will honor the client as the expert in his/her own life and believes every client is creative, resourceful and whole. Standing on this foundation, the coach’s responsibility is to:
- Discover, clarify, and align with what the client’s goals, wishes & dreams
- Encourage the client to achieve self-discovery
- Elicit client-generated solutions and strategies
- Hold the client responsible and accountable
In layman terms, Coaching is a one-on-one expert guidance process that helps the client to dig deep within oneself and seek out the resources to achieve one’s goals, desires & dreams and make them a reality.
There is a general tendency to confuse coaching with Counseling or Consultancy. Coaching is the best of both worlds.
